Reigning Australian Open Champion Andre Agassi is accustomed to breaking new ground, both on and off the court. One of only five men to win all four Grand Slam tournaments, Agassi has built an illustrious tennis career and an equal reputation for his humanitarian efforts, including the annual Grand Slam for Children benefit concert and the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy (Agassi Prep), a charter school for at-risk kids located in West Las Vegas. Students from Agassi Prep, Principal Wayne Tanaka, community, business and political leaders, the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation (AACF) Board of Directors and Capital Campaign Committees, and other dignitaries joined Agassi to break ground today on construction of Phase II of the charter school. Currently, Agassi Prep consists of grades 3-6. Phase II will add grades 7-9, with grades 10-12 opening through 2008. 争ince the opening of this school in August of 2001, hundreds of children ? who would normally not have access to the finest resources ? have had the opportunity to attend and get an outstanding education,? Agassi said. 錊Today is a celebration of the next phase of our development and a further realization of our vision for the future of the students.? Agassi Prep is an independent public school that fosters innovation and excellence in education through academic programs designed to enhance students? character, respect, motivation and self-discipline. The AACF also announced today a new partnership with Aramis and Designer Fragrances, a division of The Est嶪 Lauder Companies (NYSE:EL). The multi-year deal will establish Agassi as the spokesperson for a new fragrance, slated for a global launch in September and position the Aramis and Designer Fragrances Division as the lead corporate sponsor of the AACF, and the presenting sponsor of its major fundraiser, the Grand Slam for Children, a benefit concert slated for Oct. 4, 2003. 巣e are very excited to begin this new relationship with Andre,?stated John Karp, president of Aramis and Designer Fragrances. 声nyone who has watched him play tennis knows how determined he is, even in the face of overwhelming odds. But not only is he a great athlete, he is also a magnetic, confident, compelling personality who is able to balance career, family and philanthropy. He epitomizes the fulfillment of hopes, the realization of dreams, the drive to surpass expectations. He is a wonderful role model, and we look forward to a long, productive partnership.? Phase II of construction consists of master planning the campus and designing the new facilities within the Agassi Prep campus. The goal is to develop an overall vision and master plan for the school, which will ultimately house Kindergarten through Grade 12. Phase II is scheduled to be open for the new school year in Fall 2003. Development includes a 27,717- square-foot middle school and a 26,973-square-foot multipurpose/music building. 繊ur goal at Agassi Prep is to pioneer possibilities,?said Principal Wayne Tanaka, a 30-year educator. 斉y working together to encourage and inspire kids, we can ensure every one of our community旧 children receives the education vital to his or her success and provide the tools needed to realize their dreams. Children who once considered themselves 蝰t risk? now describe themselves as 蝰t promise.?? More than anything else in his life, Agassi says the success he旧 enjoyed has taught him the importance of dedication and hard work. 荘hat旧 a lesson I観 determined to share with kids who might otherwise not have the opportunity to succeed,?added Agassi. 潜iving up to your potential may often just be a matter of what opportunities are available to you. Our children旧 futures lie in our willingness to give them the tools they need to succeed and to open the doors of opportunity.? The AACF is the driving force behind Agassi Prep, which is located within a mile of the 25,000-square-foot Andre Agassi Boys & Girls Club, built by the Foundation in 1997. To date, the AACF has raised more than $23.5 million for local charities and causes that benefit at-risk children in Las Vegas. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 61.64.102.144 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 203.203.34.127
