ormer world No. 1 Andre Agassi will join Bulgarian tennis star Grigor
Dimitrov and the Bulgarian's full-time coach Dani Vallverdu at the Australian
Open. Dimitrov worked with former eight-time Grand Slam champion Agassi at
the Paris Masters.
The Bulgarian failed to make a deep run at the Paris Masters as he lost to
Croatian Marin Cilic in the second round. However, the 27-year-old is
bringing back Agassi for the upcoming Australian swing.
Dimitrov, ranked at No.19 in the world, is due to open his 2019 campaign in the opening week of the
season at the Brisbane International. The Bulgarian has been a regular
participant of the Brisbane event in recent years as he is set to make his
seventh consecutive appearance at the tournament.
Dimitrov ended runner-up in Brisbane in 2013 but won it all at the
tournament four years later in 2017. The 27-year-old also made the Brisbane
semi-finals in 2015 and 2018. Dimitrov, a former world No. 3, will certainly
be aiming to make a splash at Melbourne Park and fulfil his goal of winning a
Grand Slam title.
The 27-year-old is due to make his ninth consecutive Australian Open main
draw appearance. Dimitrov's best run at the Australian Open came after
winning the 2017 Brisbane title. The Bulgarian made the Australian Open
semi-final that year before he was edged out by Spain's Rafael Nadal in a
tight five-setter.
It remains to be seen will the addition of Agassi help Dimitrov to do major
things in Australia.
