Pujols still tops among NL first basemen
But Cardinals slugger's lead in All-Star balloting tightens
By Jim Molony / MLB.com
ST. LOUIS -- Albert Pujols maintained his hold on the top spot in the
National League first base balloting, but the latest campaign results
released by Major League Baseball Monday show the Cardinals slugger in a
tighter race with Prince Fielder of Milwaukee and Nomar Garciaparra of Los
Angeles.
Pujols, 27, is aiming for his sixth All-Star appearance in seven Major League
seasons.
Scott Rolen remains in fifth place among National League third basemen,
though he's also in a tough battle. The contenders ahead of him are David
Wright of the Mets, Miguel Cabrera of the Marlins, Chipper Jones of the
Braves and Aramis Ramirez of the Cubs.
Jim Edmonds dropped from No. 12 to No. 14 in outfield balloting, while
catcher Yadier Molina, currently on the disabled list, slipped off the list
of the top five vote-getters at catcher.
