Notes: Pujols still shines
Slugger leads club in hits, doubles, runs, RBIs, total bases

PHILADELPHIA -- Albert Pujols was not worried about his recent lack of power.
It was the poor at-bats and strikeouts which bothered him most.
In Friday's 13-3 loss against the Phillies, Pujols provided one of the rare
positive moments for the Cardinals when he launched a mammoth 471-foot home
run in the eighth inning off J.C. Romero. The shot snapped a career-high
homerless drought spanning 22 games and 77 at-bats.
While the 78th at-bat was satisfying, it wasn't like the home run was
necessary to relieve any tension.
"It felt good," Pujols said. "Finally, I was just able to hit the ball hard.
I had been struggling at the plate. It felt good off the bat, and I knew it
was out. If I keep taking good swings like that, everything will work out."
However, Pujols still leads the Cardinals with a .308 average. He also leads
the team in hits, doubles, runs, RBIs, total bases and on-base percentage.
"We didn't have many positives in [Friday's] game, but that was one of them,"
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said. "We've got to get guys hot in front of
him and behind him."
