In the manager’s office after Thursday’s game, Angels manager Mike Scioscia
and GM Tony Reagins discussed their options for nearly 30 minutes after
center fielder Peter Bourjos injured his hamstring in the eighth inning.
The result of those deliberations — top prospect Mike Trout will be promoted
from Double-A Arkansas in time for Friday’s game against the Mariners.
Trout, still only 19, gives the Angels protection in the outfield with
Bourjos likely to have “limited availability” this weekend (Scioscia’s
words) — though Bourjos will not necessarily go on the DL. With a four-day
All-Star break coming up, the Angels might not want to lose him for the full
15 days of a DL move.
The other half of Friday’s roster move will be announced at some point
before the game.
Trout was batting .330 with 32 extra-base hits (12 doubles, 11 triples, nine
home runs), 27 RBI, 69 runs scored and 28 stolen bases in 74 games at
Double-A. He recently played in the Texas League All-Star Game and was
scheduled to play in the All-Star Futures Game in Phoenix on Sunday.
