Defender Gabriel Heinze was also injured during the game but intial fears he
had broken his ankle have been discounted.
The Argentina defender was carried off after falling awkwardly following an
aerial challenge with Shola Ameobi and was immediately taken to hospital for
further examination.
United officials confirmed on Sunday night that X-rays had revealed there was
no break.
Heinze will be examined at the club's Carrington training ground on Monday to
determine the extent of the damage.

Manchester UnitedManchester United defender Gabriel Heinze has not broken
his ankle, the club have confirmed.
Heinze collapsed in a heap after landing awkwardly on his ankle during the
first half of United's 2-1 win over Newcastle and was stretchered off.
The former Paris Saint German star was rushed to hospital, but x-rays showed
that there was no fracture.
Now United's medical staff will assess Heinze at their training headquarters
at Carrington on Monday.
Despite no break, Heinze may yet have sustained ligament damage - but the
club are hopeful it will prove to be no more than bruising.
