Mascherano returns to Argentina
SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - Corinthians midfielder Javier Mascherano has rushed
back to Argentina because of an undisclosed illness with his new born
daughter.
Mascherano travelled to Buenos Aires late Thursday night, Corinthians said on
its website. No other details were immediately released.
The trip came a couple of hours after Mascherano got into an altercation with
teammate Carlos Alberto in Corinthians' afternoon practice. Teammates had to
intervene to keep the players from fighting. It wasn't clear why the
altercation began.
Corinthians is struggling in the Brazilian league, having lost seven of its
last eight matches. The defending champion is last in the 20-team standings
with only 10 points from 14 matches. It trails leader Sao Paulo by 19 points.
