溫格要年輕槍手們在對皇馬的比賽中，證明他們自己能讓球隊再次偉大。
溫格不會讓柯爾去馬德里，柯爾只參與過一次訓練，且溫格鑑於上次讓柯爾
太早到場上比賽結果受傷，這次決定不讓柯爾多點時間準備。Walcott也不會
先發，但如果情勢需要溫格仍會把他派上場。溫格也提到會小心貝克漢與
卡洛斯的自由球，不會讓他們在禁區附近有太多的罰球機會。溫格也提到球
隊會在貝納烏爭取入球，因為如果球隊抱著打零比零然後在主場求勝的態度
，像皇馬這種攻擊型的球隊即使到海布里也有能力進球，所以槍手們會儘量
爭取在貝納屋入球。

ARSENE WENGER has challenged his young Guns to prove they can make Arsenal
great again.
Wenger's Arsenal have never been such huge underdogs as they are for tonight
's Champions League first-leg clash against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
But the Highbury boss believes this could be his injury-hit squad’s finest
hour — a night when boys become men.
Wenger admitted: “We rarely go into a game not being the favourites — and
there are very few times in my career at any club when it’s been like this.
“But it is a good test which I take in a very positive way. We have the
basis of a great team, there is a good team dynamic and spirit.
“What this team needs is a big result — and it's down to us to believe how
much we can do it.
“The good side of the difficult period we are having is the young players
are maturing quickly.
“This kind of experience is worth six months of training.
“What the young players are doing is amazing and I'm convinced we are very
close to really becoming a strong team again.
“I can talk and talk but it is down to results.
“It's very important we are back in the Champions League again next season.
“First of all financially but also because players want to play in the
Champions League and part of their improvement is to be confronted with the
best.
“It's also important we do well against Real for the rest of our season
because we have been swimming against the stream a little bit.
“No matter what we've been doing, there have always been negative vibes.
“We had a lot of injuries and the team has shown strong mental resistance.
“It was not an easy period but some of the players have come in showing top
quality.
“Now this is a night when our young players can prove themselves.”
Defenders Sol Campbell (ankle), Ashley Cole (thigh), Gael Clichy (foot),
Pascal Cygan (hamstring), Lauren (knee) and Kerrea Gilbert (back) are all out.
So too are strikers Robin van Persie (toe) and Dennis Bergkamp (calf).
Former Monaco hitman Emmanuel Adebayor is cup-tied.
The Gunners boss said: “I could have taken a gamble on Ashley Cole but he’d
only had one day’s training.
“Last time I rushed him back he suffered a setback.
“When we started the season we thought our back four would be Lauren,
Campbell, Toure and Cole yet we played nearly the whole of January and
February without any of them.”
Theo Walcott will be on the bench tonight. And Wenger insists the 16-year-old
has not been taken along just for the ride.
He said: “I'm not afraid to put him in if it's needed — although I don't
think he will start.
“I haven't brought him just to please him I've brought him because if
there is some space out there he can come on and take advantage of it.”
Wenger is well aware of the set-piece threat posed by Real's David Beckham
and Roberto Carlos.
He said: “We have to stop them getting too many free-kicks just outside our
box.
“You will get away with two or three — but not 10. You will concede a goal.
“We will go for the win as much as possible. We cannot say we'll try for a
0-0 and win 1-0 at home because a team like Real can come to Highbury and
score, so we have to score.”
