Wenger targets European success

Arsene Wenger wants Arsenal to focus their efforts on the Champions League.
The Gunners are struggling in the league 14 points adrift of Chelsea and
are perennial underachievers in Europe, a trend the Frenchman wants to
reverse.
"We live in a society where people do not talk about what you have done
well but what you have not done well," Wenger told the club's website.
"You do and you do and you do, but people say 'ah but you have not done
that'. OK then, we will try to do it."
In stark contrast to their domestic form, Arsenal have started well in
Europe this term, winning their first two games.
But they have never progressed beyond the quarter-finals in the Champions
League under Wenger and in an effort to do so he is willing to sacrifice
FA Cup glory - a tournament he has won four times.
"If I come into a situation where if I have to choose between the FA Cup
and the Champions League, I will choose the Champions League," he added.
"In the past we have put too much energy into the FA Cup and it conflicts
with the Champions League.
"[Last year] we went to Sheffield United in a replay and then, when we
played against Bayern Munich, we lacked a little something in the last 20
minutes. We left a little too much energy there."
And Wenger is adamant he will lead the Gunners to Champions League glory.
"I'm convinced I will do it one day. Whether it is this year, next year or
two years I don't know," he added.
"The Champions League is harder to predict now.
"It is not a lottery because you still have to be good to win it, but it
has more of a cup formula. The teams are more level and the form of the
day makes a difference."
