In-form Robin van Persie is set to be handed a first team call-up by Arsene
Wenger.
The Dutch winger has bagged four goals in his last three games, two of which
came against Sunderland at The Stadium of Light last month.
Now van Persie looks as if he will be handed a first team start against
Sunderland on Saturday.
Van Persie was arrested during the summer on allegations of a sexual assault
in his native Holland and he spent two weeks in custody.
The 22-year-old, although still under investigation, was not charged - and
manager Arsene Wenger feels it was the problems in the summer that hampered
van Persie's start to the new season.
"I felt he was affected by the situation he faced at the start of the
season," said Wenger.
"Now he looks like he has crossed the border and is coming back to really
where you expect him to be - he looks dominant, strong physically.
"I bought him not to put him on the bench, but to develop him and bring him
into the side.
"He is making huge progress at the moment.
"He is a kind of guy who can play centre-forward and knows enough football to
play a little deeper.
"At the moment, I see him more in front as the first striker."
