The French midfielder announced his departure from Arsenal late last week. It came just days after the Club had unveiled Rosicky as their first acquisition of the summer. In an exclusive interview with the Club’s official website, the Arsenal manager explained that although the two players are not identical, the Czech international will fit comfortably into the hole Pires has left in the squad. “I took Rosicky to replace Robert,” explained Wenger. “I moved very quickly after Robert told me he would go. I wanted to secure [Rosicky] before the World Cup starts. “He is a little bit similar position-wise to Robert. He can play in Dennis Bergkamp's role, on the left, in a 4-3-3 or central.
