The Argentinian legend was an admiring spectator in Stuttgart as half-time sub Fabregas set up two goals to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 victory against Tunisia on Monday night. Fabregas is now preparing for a likely second-round clash with his Gunners skipper Thierry Henry and former captain Patrick Vieira, the man he replaced in the Arsenal midfield. And he will be buoyed by praise from one of the greatest players in football history. Maradona said: “I hope Fabregas will always play football like that. He was spectacular against Tunisia. “He gave Spain the final ball which they had been lacking in the first half and he changed the game around.” Fabregas has had a dream start to the World Cup as Spain have romped to the top of Group H with seven goals in two games. Spain only have to avoid defeat against Saudi Arabia on Friday to win their group — but with France likely to finish second, Fabregas is aware Henry could turn his trip to Germany into a nightmare in the last 16, Fabregas said: “It could be very difficult if we play France because they are a great side and an experienced side but we are showing people we don’t have to be scared of anyone. “Of course I know Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira well from the training ground at Arsenal, so I know it is going to be very difficult. “Thierry, Patrick, Claude Makelele — I know them all and they are all difficult. “It would be very tough but not impossible to beat them.” Spain’s Liverpool midfield man Xabi Alonso insists Fabregas’ impact has not come as a shock because he put in such stirring displays during Arsenal’s Champions League campaign. Alonso said: “I’m not surprised because we know what he can do, we see what he does in training every day. “He is not fazed by the World Cup, he is very young but he shows a maturity on the pitch — and has the ability to show what a great player he is and how important he is to us. “He has an old head on young shoulders, as they say in England.” Fabregas, 19, is one of 16 Arsenal players at the tournament — no club in the world has more. Fabregas said: “I have talked to other Arsenal players, like Philippe Senderos and Johan Djourou, quite a lot but not the French players. “I spoke to Ashley Cole as well. He has done well, especially given he’s been out injured for eight months. “I don’t know if I’ll start in our next game, that’s not my decision. “But I was given the opportunity in the second half against Tunisia and took it. “At half-time I had to try and turn things round. I was lucky, we scored three goals and we came back with a result.
