Wenger vents frustration
By Graeme Bailey - Created on 9 Sep 2006
Arsene Wenger admitted to his frustration after seeing Arsenal held to a 1-1
draw at Emirates Stadium for the second successive game.
Aston Villa took a point in the opening game at The Gunners' new home and
Middlesbrough did the same on Saturday.
Arsenal dominated possession but even against ten-man Boro - who had George
Boateng sent off, Wenger's men could not find a way through.
"Very frustrating, at the moment you can see problems in the fact we were 1-0
down when it looked easy to keep a clean-sheet because Middlesbrough was all
about defending and in the end we dropped two points against a team who had
one shot on goal," he told Sky Sports.
"We couldn't finish them off and we didn't use the pitch well and we lacked
sharpness in the final third and their keeper did the rest.
"I am concerned because we have dropped points, not for the quality. I feel
we have as much quality as ever but at the moment we cannot take the points
and that is disturbing for the players as well.
"We have massive potential in this team but at the moment we don't get the
points we deserve - we should have nine points but we have two and we are not
happy with that, but that doesn't mean this team doesn't have this quality."
Wenger also refused to comment hugely on the serialisation of Ashley Cole's
book which attacked Arsenal's team spirit in Saturday's press.
"To sell books they have to be controversial in this country and I didn't
read it but we are united here and I think people may need to move clubs to
see that," he added.
