Toure targets Gunners stay
By Alex Livie - Created on 22 Oct 2006
Kolo Toure is ready to commit his long-term future to Arsenal.
The Ivorian has blossomed from a raw 21-year-old into the rock at the heart
of Arsenal's back-line, having joined The Gunners from ASEC Mimosas four
years ago.
Toure was recently rewarded with a new four-year contract, but he is already
looking beyond the boundaries of his present commitment.
"I can see myself staying here for the rest of my career," Toure told The
Sunday Mirror.
"Why would I want to leave? I love my football, my family is settled here and
the club is ambitious. It is fantastic here.
"I have played with players who, five or six years ago, I was watching on
television back in the Ivory Coast - people like Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry
Henry."
Henry is Arsenal's talisman, but Toure has set his sights on succeeding the
Frenchman as captain.
"One day I would love to captain the club," he added. "Thierry is doing a
fantastic job, he is a tremendous leader. But one day, yes, I would love to."
