Having sold Thierry Henry for ￡16m to Barcelona, the addition of Sagna will take Arsene Wenger's spending this summer to around ￡19m. He is also being linked with an offer for Obafemi Martins, who has a ￡13m buy-out clause in his Newcastle contract, although his agent last night refused to comment on a potential move. Sagna, 24, has the reputation as an attacking full-back and, after playing in the French Under-21 team in the 2006 European Championships, received his first call-up to the full French squad for the Euro 2008 qualifying matches against Ukraine and Georgia. He has been with Auxerre since 2004 and helped the club win the French Cup of 2005. He is expected to sign a five-year contract and his arrival will provide competition and cover for Emmanuel Eboue at right-back. The future of Cesc Fabregas, meanwhile, is expected to become clearer in the next two days. Reports in Spain continue to link him with a move to Real Madrid after the club's sporting director, Predrag Mijatovic, and new coach, Bernd Schuster, both expressed their admiration this week. Arsenal, though, have been reassured by comments from Fabregas' agent, Joseba Diaz,who has linked the Spanish midfielder's future to that of Wenger. Fabregas has a contract until 2014 and the club are also confident that Wenger will extend his own contract which expires next year. Talks have continued over Freddie Ljungberg's possible ￡5.5m move to Fiorentina.
