[新聞] Double-barrelled Gunners?

Arsenal's famous victory in the San Siro saw the crown of European football
pass from Italy to England, according to Henry Winter.
The Gunners have been lauded in the press all week following their incredible
performance in the Champions League clash at AC Milan as Cesc Fabregas and
Emmanuel Adebayor scored late on to secure a fully deserved 2-0 win.
The display was so good that Milan's supporters applauded Arsenal team off
the field at the final whistle and Daily Telegraph journalist Winter told The
Sunday Supplement it was a defining night for Arsenal, for Arsene Wenger and
for English football.
He said: "There was an interesting moment afterwards in the mix zone when
Kaka walked past, put his hand on Fabregas' shoulder and said well done.
"It was almost the passing of the flame of European brilliance from AC Milan
to Arsenal - or really to English clubs because we should have four teams in
the quarters.
"They were outstanding and it's very rare that you hear opposing fans at that
level applauding the victors off the pitch - and the Milan fans, who know how
to do well in Europe, applauded Arsenal off the pitch.
"It was a fantastic lesson in how to lose, but we also saw a fantastic lesson
in management from Arsene Wenger in terms of inspiring his players to go and
do that.
"I don't think anyone predicted Arsenal would go there and make Milan look
old rather than experienced.
"But Wenger got his tactics right, which was to take the game to them,
exhaust them and then unleash the pace which we saw from Theo Walcott late
on."
But while Winter was full of praise for Arsenal, he played down talk of the
Gunners completing a remarkable Premier League and Champions League double
this season.
He feels that in the modern era, teams may need to focus on one competition
if they want to guarantee success and to succeed in two tournaments requires
"phenomenal" effort.
"It's very difficult to do a double nowadays," he added
"It would be an absolutely phenomenal achievement for any team that does.
"Milan have proved in recent years that you pour all of your energies into
one tournament - either the Champions League or Serie A in their case.
"I think Alex Ferguson's achievement in 1999 of doing a treble with
Manchester United is just awesome and looks even more so with every passing
year.
"I can't see a team doing a double this season."
