The million-rated star developed symptoms of the potentially fatal disease on the Premier League club’s tour of Hungary and Austria. Toure, 27, had just returned from a holiday in his Ivory Coast homeland. Malaria is extremely common in Africa. An Arsenal spokesman said last night: He has malaria but is in good spirits.? Toure was sent to a hospital in Vienna after suffering dizzy spells and severe tiredness. Last night he was back in the team camp being watched by club doctors. The infectious tropical disease can be deadly if it is not treated. Each year, there are approximately 515million cases of malaria — killing more than one million. The majority of victims are African children. A source close to the Arsenal squad added: 戦 It was obvious to everyone Kolo was not feeling himself when he met up with the squad. He was rushed to hospital and tests showed up that he had contracted the disease. The medical staff are very concerned about him and are trying to work out how long he will be out for. This would be disastrous for the team because he is one of the leaders of the side and a very important player. Toure was absent as Arsenal kicked off their pre-season tour against Hungarian side Szombathelyi Haladas in Austria. Last week it was revealed ex-Chelsea and Newcastle defender Celestine Babayaro was in a London hospital after contracting malaria while on holiday in Nigeria. And Toure’s childhood pal Didier Zokora, who plays for rivals Spurs, contracted malaria on a trip home.
