[新聞] 離開槍手的球員都不如意嗎?
http://tinyurl.com/5ld36a arsenal truth
For the last 5 years or so it has increasingly been assumed that leaving
Arsenal Football Club pretty much spells the end of a player's career - or at
least the end of having a successful career at another club. But what's the
truth behind the fiction?
Considering Arsenal have won nothing other than a dodgy FA Cup final in the
last four years, one might begin to assume that staying at Arsenal is hardly
indicative of success leading to failure. In the past 6 years, around 30
players have left Arsenal, but how many of those can really consider to be
failures? Well first you have to quantify what success and failure is. If
success is based on trophies won alone, then Arsenal currently only have two
successful players in their entire squad - Toure and Gallas, so it would be a
bit rich to get all high and mighty about the success rates of players let go
by Arsene Wenger.
If, however, success constitutes playing for a top European club side,
week-in week-out, challenging for major trophies and perhaps winning the odd
one, then Arsenal currently have numerous successful players, and perhaps
that would be a fairer equation for deciding the true level of a player's
success.
So, looking at the players who have left Arsenal over the last 5-6 seasons,
what exactly have they achieved at their subsequent clubs?
Successful:
Lassana Diarra - departed Arsenal in January and won the FA cup with 8th
placed Portsmouth
Jose Reyes - won the Primera League with Real Madrid, now playing for
Atletico Madrid, finished 4th last season
Robert Pires - struggled with injury in his first season but made 35
appearances last and finished 2nd with Spanish side Villarreal
Pascal Cygan - along with Pires, pretty much a regular at high-flying
Villarreal
Ashley Cole - yet to win the Premiership since leaving Arsenal, but won the
FA Cup and made a Champions League final
Sol Campbell - won the FA cup with 8th placed Portsmouth
Jermaine Pennant - named man of the match after Liverpool's Champions League
final defeat of AC Milan in 2007
Sylvain Wiltord - won three French titles with Lyon and made a Champions
League quarter final
Kanu - scored the winning goals for Portsmouth in both the FA cup Semi-Final
and Final 2008
Patrick Vieira - moved from Juve to Inter last season and promptly won Serie A
Giovanni Van Bronckorst - has won the Champions League with Barcelona and two
titles
Moderately successful but not outright failures:
Freddie Ljungberg - left Arsenal aged 30, moved to West Ham but still
massively injury-prone, unfair to call him a failure
Thierry Henry - moved to Barcelona and scored 19 goals - decent total -
throughout an injury-ravaged season, played in the Champions League semi-final
Fabrice Muamba - the boy is only 20, but has already clocked up 71 games for
Birmingham City, has a bright future
Sebstian Larsen - scored 9 goals in 51 appearances for Birmingham, impressive
for a 23-year-old midfielder
Lauren - made 25 appearances for 8th placed Portsmouth, was injured and
therefore didn't feature in their 2008 FA Cup final success
David Bentley - played regularly for Blackburn - and received the plaudits,
broke into the England squad last season and has now moved to Spurs for 17
million. Hardly a failure, however much you may pour scorn on him.
Failures:
Arturo Lupoli - Left for Fiorentina after a loan spell at Derby, has
subsequently been loaned to Treviso and now Norwich
Jeremie Aliadiere - played 29 games for Middlesbrough last season, scoring a
paltry 5 goals
Anthony Stokes - now playing regularly for Sunderland, but only scored 3 in
34 appearances last season
Igor Stepanovs - a Wenger abhoration, has played for 5 sub-standard clubs
since leaving Arsenal, now plying his trade at Russian side FC Shinnik
Yaroslavl
Quincy Awusu-Abeyie - plays for Spartak Moscow but has been considered for a
loan to Championship side Birmingham this season
Edu - broke his leg pre-season upon joining Valencia, then in his first full
season at the club (last season) they finished 10th
Francis Jeffers - complete disaster since leaving Arsenal, played for 6
different clubs scoring 9 goals in 5 years.
Moritz Volz - 25 now, and played over 100 games for Fulham since leaving
Arsenal; gets regular playing time but not much else.
Matthew Upson - much like Volz, plays regularly at Premiership level but
nothing much to show for his 29 years age.
So there you have it - although this exercise should not be taken too seriously
, one can certainly assume that leaving Arsenal does not mean your career will
end in tatters. However much we'd like to think as supporters that Arsenal is
the only place to be and it would be a mistake to leave, it's largely a myth.
