Asked whether he was specifically interested in bringing AC Milan striker
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to the Emirates stadium, Wenger told press:
“We are not after any striker at the moment.”
The Frenchman remained coy on interest in Fulham defender Chris Smalling
despite reports from Sky Sports that the England under-21 international was
set to join Manchester United. Hinting that a deal was not dead in the water,
the Arsenal coach joked that early reports appeared to suggest that
Manchester United had offered more money.

“It just looks like Manchester United offered more money than us,” replied
Wenger when the latest speculation was put to him.
“As long as the player has not signed anywhere it is not the end of it. Let’
s see what happens there.
“We will not come out on what we are doing exactly but as you [reporters]
say it has come out on television but that doesn’t mean it is true.
“So let’s see. If we have anything more to tell you we will let you know.”
