Thierry Henry named French Player of the Y …
Thierry Henry has been voted French Player of the Year for 2003 by France
Football magazine.
The Arsenal striker has enjoyed plenty of recognition this month, finishing
second to Zinedine Zidane in the FIFA World Player of the Year poll before
being pipped to the Ballon D'Or award by Pavel Nedved.
This time Henry topped the poll with 162 points. Zidane was second with 129
points while Monaco's Ludovic Giuly finished third with 67.
It is the second time Henry has been named French Player of the Year after
claiming the prize in 2000. The judging panel is made up of all the former
winners of the award.
"It is nice to be ahead of Zizou," Henry told France Football. "I have gained
a lot of maturity and also brushed up my game tremendously this year.
"You cannot rely on talent alone anymore, unless you are a guy like
Diego Maradona; in my opinion it is mental strength and hard work that really
make you progress."
