That being said, Nomo's performance on Tuesday night against the Phillies in Clearwater is very important. "We'll make our decision [on Tuesday]," Piniella said prior to Monday's game. "Nomo has improved steadily all spring. ... We just want to see him throw the ball. If he throws the ball like he did the other night in St. Petersburg, we'll be pleased. His velocity's been better. His command's been better. If we see him throw like the last time, we'd be pleased." In his last outing, Nomo allowed one run in five innings against the Reds on Thursday night. Nomo, who struck out five and walked two, gave up the lone run on a Joe Randa home run.
