Srichaphan Honoured In Retirement Ceremony
Former World No. 9 Paradorn Srichaphan was honoured in a special retirement
ceremony at the PTT Thailand Open on Sunday. The Bangkok native is a national
hero in his native country and enjoyed strong performances at the PTT
Thailand Open, reaching the semi-finals from 2004-2006. He played his last
professional match in a first-round doubles loss (w/ Udomchoke) at the event
last year.
“I’d like to thank all the ATP staff,” said Srichaphan at the ceremony. “
From the very first time I entered the ATP, it was like a second home to me.
It meant that every year when I was travelling on the Tour for eight or nine
months I was able to not miss home too much. Thank you for everything.”
In his 13-year career, Srichaphan won five ATP World Tour titles from 11
finals. A recurring right wrist injury ended the Thai player’s career and he
has since turned his talents to acting, starring as an action superstar in
the Thai film, “Bang Rajan II”.
