Player Comments On Japan Earthquake

INDIAN WELLS, CA, USA - On Friday, March 11, an 8.9 to 9.1 magnitude
earthquake hit the coast of Japan, triggering inland waves and causing at
least hundreds of deaths and thousands of people missing so far. It is
estimated as the largest quake to hit Japan and one of the five largest ever
to hit the world.
The following are some reactions from WTA players at Indian Wells...
Kimiko Date-Krumm: "I came back to the hotel after the player party and heard
from my manager what had happened. I turned on the TV and was very shocked.
My mother lives in a different area but I called her anyway to check she was
fine. My family sent me an e-mail saying everyone was fine, although my
brother was stuck in his office because the trains stopped and traffic was
too big - he slept on the sofa in his office. It's very horrible. I'm very
sorry for everybody. I'm still in shock and I hope there isn't anything else
coming. Normally I don't watch much TV or go on the internet but now I do."
Ayumi Morita: "I was watching the news on the TV last night and I'm so sorry.
I hope everyone is fine and safe and I hope everything will get better soon."
Jelena Jankovic: "It was so unexpected. You can't control these things. I
don't know what to say from the people's perspective but I really hope they
get help somehow. We'll hopefully see support from different parts of the
world."
Maria Sharapova: "It's crazy and something you can't even prepare for. It's
incredible something like that can happen. It opens your eyes and puts a lot
of perspective in your life. It's a country where I have very great memories
from. I started playing there when I was very young, and I always loved my
experiences there. So to see it going on there, to its culture and the
people, it's really sad."
Ana Ivanovic: "It's really sad to see what's happening in Japan. You can't
control these things and you're not prepared for it. I just hope they can
recover well. If there's anything we can do from our side, we're more than
happy to help."
Caroline Wozniacki: "I would definitely love to do something because it's
very sad what has happened in Japan. I really feel for the families and the
people who have been affected. To turn on the TV and see, it's just been
crushed to zero. I'd like to help out if I can, in any way, and I just need
to find out which way."
