WTA Challenger Series Heads To Delhi The WTA has announced Delhi will host the India Open at R.K. Khanna Stadium, the week of November 5, 2012. The tournament will mark the return of professional women's tennis to India for the first time since 2008 (regular WTA events have been held in Hyderabad and Bangalore). 印度將在首都舉辦 WTA 2nd 挑戰賽（不同於 ITF 賽事），印度曾舉辦的 WTA 賽事有 Bangalore Open，及其 2006 年移址前的前身，AP Tourism Hyderabad Open。 2003 始辦 AP Tourism Hyderabad Open，為 Tier 4； 2006 遷至 Bangalore，升級為 Tier 3； 2008 升成 Tier 2，謝幕。 Shvedova、Mirza、Tanasugarn 都曾取得單打冠軍；鄭潔、晏紫、彭帥、孫甜甜、詹詠然、莊佳容、Mirza 則是雙打奪冠。 The India Open will be the region's second event as part of the WTA Challenger Series, as Taipei plays host to the first. The WTA Challenger Series was created to showcase women's tennis in emerging markets with strong fan bases. These events will have total prize money of $125,000 and a 32-player singles main draw, 16-team doubles draw and 16-player singles qualifying draw. "The WTA Challenger Series is enabling us to broaden the reach of the WTA within the APAC region. We will bring WTA tennis to two crucial markets - Delhi and Taipei - at two amazing venues," said Peter Johnston, WTA Managing Director of Asia Pacific. "This series not only provides valuable playing opportunities for players but also fuels growth of tennis in the APAC region." Delhi, the capital of India, recently played host to the Commonwealth Games and the city's R.K. Khanna Stadium will seat 5,200 fans at Centre Court. The first event in the series, the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open, will take place the week of October 27, 2012 in Chinese Taipei.
