Martin O'Neill is delighted with Aston Villa cup win over Crystal Palace
MARTIN O’Neill has heaped praise on Villa’s FA Cup quarter-finalists for
refusing to shirk the challenge of Crystal Palace ahead of Sunday’s Wembley
showpiece.

Villa prevailed 3-1 after another competitive contest against Neil Warnock’s
Championship strugglers – despite the Carling Cup final against Manchester
United just days away.

It is the first time O’Neill has progressed to the last eight of the FA Cup
as a manager and the first time Villa have made it since they were finalists
in 2000.

But although Villa have now booked a trip to Reading, O’Neill is glad that
he can finally turn his attention to preparing for the League Cup clash
against United on Sunday.

“Naturally I’m delighted for the football club and I know it’s the usual
old stuff that I come out with but I’m genuinely pleased for the players,”
he said.

“After Sunday people were wondering what sort of side we’d put out.
"裡拜天才剛打完比賽 大家都猜我會不會繼續操主力 廢話 我是馬丁奧尼爾耶!!!!"
“All the players were prepared to go for it and I didn’t see anyone
shirking anything at all in preparation for Sunday and I think that speaks
volumes for the team.

“They’re showing some fantastic ability and improving. They’ve got big
commitment there in abundance.

“I think West Bromwich Albion would have been a local derby but Reading have
had a wonderful FA Cup and it doesn’t seem to matter where they go.

final,”

O’Neill also saluted the Villa Park crowd after another bumper turn out
despite an expensive week for the claret and blue faithful.

And the Villa Park boss criticised the ticket prices for Sunday’s match
against Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.

“There was a big crowd as well who turned up with their hard earned money,”
he said.

“It’s great to have people coming to support the side, particularly with
the prices you’re having to pay for the Carling Cup final.

“They found some money again to support the team. We had almost 32,000 there
which is fantastic and I really appreciate it.”

O’Neill insisted that justice was done after Palace complained – in echoes
of the first tie – that the corner which led to Villa’s opening goal should
have been a goal-kick.

The ball appeared to strike James Milner as it crossed the byline, but O’
Neill argued that Villa should have had a free-kick moments earlier free-kick
for a foul on the midfielder.

“I actually saw it back at half-time,” he added. “It shouldn’t have been
a corner, it should have been a free kick to us because James Milner has had
his legs taken.

“It was absolute justice there can be no question that British justice has
prevailed!”

O’Neill is hoping that all of his players came through last night’s tie
unscathed ahead of Sunday, adding: “That was always the risk, but the
players were prepared to take that risk anyway and we needed to do so.
