Astros re-sign RHP Wheeler to one-year contract
HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros on Monday re-signed
dependable righthander Dan Wheeler to a one-year contract worth
$2.1 million contract.
Wheeler was 3-5 with a 2.52 ERA and nine saves in 75 relief
appearances for the Astros in 2006. He struck out 68 and walked
24 while allowing 58 hits in 71 1/3 innings.
The 29-year-old Wheeler posted a 1.11 ERA in 32 1/3 innings
after the All-Star break - the fifth-lowest ERA of any National
League reliever over that span.
In three years with Houston, Wheeler is 5-8 with a 2.38 ERA and
12 saves in 160 appearances. Over seven career seasons, he is
11-17 with a 3.82 ERA and 14 saves in 257 games for Tampa Bay,
the New York Mets and the Astros.
