HOUSTON -- In recent weeks, starting shortstop Mark Loretta has used the
phrase "hitting is contagious" to describe how the Astros offense might
finally turn things around.

For at least this week, he's been exactly right.

Astros hitters throughout the order came through with another outstanding
performance Saturday, scoring seven runs on nine hits against Seattle starter
Cha Seung Baek (3-3) en route to a 9-4 victory in front of 41,974 fans at
Minute Maid Park. It was the fourth time in the last five games the Astros
have scored at least five runs, and the victory gives the Astros only their
second series win in the past month.

fastballs, we jump on them. We jump on pitches we can handle."

Seven of the eight Astros starters had at least one hit, with Loretta, Mike
Lamb, Carlos Lee and Brad Ausmus all having multihit games.

More impressively, the bottom-of-the-order hitters -- Lamb and Ausmus -- were
a combined 5-for-7 with an RBI and three runs scored. And when Morgan Ensberg
came in the game late to replace Lamb and bat in the nine spot, he responded
with a massive two-run shot to the railroad tracks to provide the final margin.

the order to contribute, and your RBI guys, like Carlos Lee and Lance
[Berkman], will do what they normally do, and instead of scoring three,
four or five runs, you're scoring six, seven or eight runs."

With Loretta moving to shortstop on a more regular basis to replace the
injured Adam Everett, that likely leaves more playing time at third base
for Lamb and Ensberg. Both made a positive impression on Saturday.

"I'd like to see [Ensberg] swing the bat like he did," Garner said. "He let

In the first inning, Hunter Pence opened the scoring by delivering an RBI

In the second, Lamb and Ausmus led off the inning with back-to-back singles,
and Craig Biggio followed two batters later with a towering three-run homer
to the back of the Crawford Boxes. The blast gave Biggio 2,989 hits for his
career and was only his fifth home run of the season, giving the Astros a 5-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Woody Williams (3-9) wasn't spectacular, but he was solid

charge early. He went 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits to
collect his third win of the season.

The only challenge to the Houston lead came in the seventh inning, when
Williams left with two outs and a runner on first and the Astros holding
a 7-4 lead. Garner turned to his left-hander, Trever Miller, to face lefty
Ichiro Suzuki, but Ichiro lined a single up the middle for his third hit of
the game, bringing the tying run to the plate.

frankly, I think we were a little lucky on the 3-2 pitch. That wasn't exactly

to hit in the game, but it didn't really do what he wanted it to do."

After Saturday, the Astros are at 3-2 on the current homestand and have the
opportunity Sunday to clinch their first three-game series sweep of the
season. But even though things seem to be on the upswing, the team is trying
to keep a level-headed mind-set.
