Kyle Weiland has surgery to repair shoulder http://0rz.tw/DOZ0V Kyle Weiland’s shoulder condition, initially seen as simply bursitis, deteriorated to the point where he required surgery Tuesday on what is believed to be an infection. While an MRI revealed no structural damage, a culture pointed to a probable infection, so doctors performed an arthroscopic procedure. The timetable for his return is still open-ended. The team will see how he responds to the surgery and begins his rehab until figuring a time. Weiland had already been on the disabled list retroactive to April 25. “Unfortunately my original thinking was that he was just going to spend the 15 days on there, but now we don’t know,” general manager Jeff Luhnow said. ”If he has to be treated for an infection, he has to be treated for an antibiotic course and we don’t know how long that would take and how much he can do during that time and how long it will be before he’s ready to throw again in games.” His spot will come up next in this week, but with an off-day Thursday, the Astros can and will delay the need for a new No. 5 starter until May 8.
