Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone wants to bring Bayern Munich midfielder Artur
o Vidal, who is reportedly up for sale this summer.
Arturo Vidal is one of the handful of Bayern Munich players who the club would
reportedly be willing to sell this summer. At 31-years-old and with only one
year left on his contract, this could be the last opportunity for the Bavarian
s to make some money off the player.
The Chilean has most often been linked with a move back to Italy or to the Pre
mier League. Both Milan clubs, Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli and even Vidal’s for
mer club Juventus have all been rumored as his next destination. Meanwhile, Ma
nchester United and Chelsea have reportedly expressed interest in the player a
s well.
However, a report from Sport1 claims there is a new club pursuing Vidal’s sig
nature. Diego Simeone — who has apparently admired Vidal for some time now —
wants to bring the Warrior to the Spanish capital.
The report suggests that Atletico Madrid have been monitoring Vidal for a whil
e and want him replace Gabi as a strong leader in the center of the park. They
were interested back in 2015 as well, but Vidal ultimately chose a move to Mu
nich instead.
Bayern Munich have quite the corps of talented midfielders. And with the retur
n of Renato Sanches from loan and the acquisition of dynamic youngster Leon Go
retzka, competition for places in the Bavarian midfield will only be more diff
icult this season.
Vidal is already on the wrong side of 30, and his play style isn’t exactly co
nducive to a long, sustainable career. With these things in mind, and the fact
that his contract expires next summer, Bayern really should consider letting
the Chilean go if an appropriate offer is made.
