文章中指出拓荒者即將在星期三的會議中宣布Steve Patterson為新任president。
拓荒者發言人Mike Hanson對於這消息細節不表示任何意見, 只說在星期三早上會
對外公佈細節內容。把原文貼在下面:
The Trail Blazers have scheduled a Wednesday news conference at which they are
expected to announce that Steve Patterson, a senior vice president and chief
development officer of the NFL's Houston Texans, will be named president.
Mike Hanson, a Blazers spokesman, would not offer specifics on the team's
choice this morning, saying only that a news conference was scheduled for
11:30 a.m. Wednesday, and that "further details will be available at that time."
Patterson, a former general manager with the Houston Rockets, would neither
confirm nor deny his imminent return to the NBA when reached at his Houston
home Sunday. "Where they are right now, if anybody is going to comment, it
ought to be the Blazers," he said.
A spokesperson for the Texans on Monday also suggested that questions about
Patterson's connection to the Blazers be directed to the Blazers. At the same
time, the Texans provided extensive biographical information about Patterson
and his career.
"To be honest, we don't really have any comment until everything is official,"
the spokesperson said. "Our comment is we're not going to comment until an
announcement is made."
Patterson, 45, is expected to fill one of the two Blazers front office
vacancies created last month when Bob Whitsitt announced that he would step
down as president and general manager June 30.
Patterson, a 1984 graduate of the University of Texas Law School, became one of
Houston's most successful professional sports executives while bouncing from
the NBA's Rockets, to the International Hockey League's Aeros, to the NFL's
Texans.
Patterson, son of longtime NBA executive Ray Patterson, spent nine seasons with
the Rockets. He was criticized early in his career for riding his father's
coattails, but he started making a name for himself not long after Charlie
Thomas, the Rockets owner at the time, made Patterson the general manager in
1989. At 32, Patterson was the youngest general manager in the NBA.
During his tenure as the Rockets' general manager up to 1993, Patterson drafted
Alabama's Robert Horry, signed free agents Mario Elie and Matt Bullard, and
negotiated trades for Kenny Smith, Vernon Maxwell, Otis Thorpe and Carl
Herrera - all integral players on the Rockets' 1994 NBA championship team.
Shortly after Leslie Alexander bought the Rockets in 1993, Patterson left the
team and joined the IHL Aeros. He was named the league's Executive of the Year
in 1995 and helped turn the Aeros into one of the most successful franchises
in IHL history.
In 1997, he joined businessman Bob McNair and not only engineered the efforts
to build Reliant Stadium, but also outmaneuvered Los Angeles in orchestrating
the bid that landed an NFL expansion franchise in Houston.
Patterson serves on the Board of Texas Special Olympics and the Sam Houston
Area Boy Scouts. He and his wife, Yasmin, have two sons, Austin and Dylan, and
a daughter, Leila.
