Steve Patterson, president and general manager of the Portland Trail Blazers,
has resigned from the job, effective immediately. (To read a transcript of a

Vulcan Inc. announced the resignation this morning in a news release that
also said that Tod Leiweke, 47, "will assume management oversight" of the NBA
franchise.
Leiweke, also chief executive officer of the Seattle Seahawks, announced that
an immediate search would be conducted to name a new general manager and also
to find a new president of business operations.
"I am excited about this new opportunity and look forward to being a part of
the Trail Blazers," said Leiweke in the news release.
Patterson said that he decided it was the right time to go.
"With my contract soon to expire and after discussions with Paul and Tod
concluded this was simply the right time to step away," said Patterson. "I
take great pride in what we achieved during my time in Portland and am
confident we have placed this organization on a path that will result in
success for many years to come."
