Roy out for tonight's game

Blazer guard Brandon Roy will not play against Seattle tonight. During his
pregame meeting with reporters, Portland coach Nate McMillan said that he
wants to rest Roy and his aching knees after he logged 31 minutes against the
Los Angeles Clippers Friday night in Los Angeles.
McMillan had said earlier in the week that he might sit Roy on the second
night of the back-to-back set. Roy's right knee _ the one he had surgery on
during his junior year at Washington _ has been painful. Now, Roy's left knee
is causing discomfort and McMillan said it may be that Roy is
overcompensating as a result of the right knee issues.
McMillan said Roy may not play again in the team's final three games this
season. Roy has logged 2,015 minutes in just 57 games and he averages 35.4
minutes a game, which leads all rookies in the league. Instead of taking a
risk of further damage to the likely rookie of the year, McMillan is taking a
cautious approach.
McMillan said Fred Jones will start in Roy's place. Jones has played well in
the Blazers past two games, including scoring 18 points against Houston
Wednesday. He had a team-high seven assists in the loss against the Clippers
Friday night.
