Part II - Making Roy nervous: Paul Allen pays a visit
He is the Trail Blazers' go-to player, the one to take the high-pressure shot
under the most intense conditions, but Brandon Roy this summer had a feeling
on the basketball court that he hasn't had in a long time: nervousness.
He was working out on Mercer Island in Washington, which happens to be where
Blazers owner Paul Allen lives. Allen, who enjoys interacting with his
players, let it be known that he might visit Roy during his workout.
"He said he might come by the gym, but I was thinking, 'Nah, he probably has
something to do','' Roy said.
Entering the final hour of his workout, during which he was to work on ball
handling, Roy looked up and saw Allen entering the gym.
"I got all nervous,'' Roy said, giggling at the notion. "I already play for
the guy and here I am feeling like I'm trying out for him. It was like I was
trying to impress him.''
