http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/wildcats/253154 Ex-Cat loves blogging and his life in Portland NBA baptisms do not get much rougher than Channing Frye's. The No. 8 pick in the 2005 NBA draft, a power forward from the Arizona Wildcats, was immediately thrust into the New York spotlight with the tumultuous Knicks in 2005-06. He showed promise as a rookie and started 59 games in 2006-07 but was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers after the season. Even though Frye's role decreased with the Blazers last season, making him the subject of trade rumors again this summer, Frye appears happier than ever as a pro entering his fourth season. He discussed his outlook — as well as new Blazers teammate Jerryd Bayless, UA successor Jordan Hill and his oft-humorous Web site (channingfrye.com) — after playing in a UA pickup game on Friday at McKale Center. Q: So what's a better place to live, New York or Portland? A: Portland. My type of people, my type of weather and just everything's good. It's a nice environment to grow up in. Q: Was New York about as tough a situation as you could ask for? A: Oh yeah. … It was a nice experience. It helped me grow as a character. Was an opportunity for me to really grow up and understand the different spectrums of the NBA life. Q: But in Portland, you're playing less. Is that a better situation overall? A: I think last year with the injuries that we had, they were trying to figure out where to put me and where I was going to define my game. I think this summer I kind of defined it. It's like 'This is how I play. This is where I'm going to fit in. Use me as you will.' But I know how I play and what I do is extremely important, and it's going to be a big part of how we're going to win. Q: It seemed like earlier this summer there was a lot of trade talk about you. A: There always is every summer. That's always a compliment. I don't care. I love Portland, but if I get traded, I get traded. I can't sit here and worry about that. Those guys in Portland have always treated me right. Q: How do you see Jerryd fitting in? A: I think he's going to fit in very well. He's aggressive. He's a good point guard. He's extremely athletic. His attitude is what we need. His determination to win is going to be good for us. Q: Isn't it ironic that you played for the same high school (Phoenix St. Mary's) and college but never crossed paths until the NBA? A: We always missed each other. So now we get an opportunity to play together and hopefully do some good things for the future of Portland. Q: Were you guys friends before? A: I was cool with his brother (Justin, a high school teammate of Frye's). I always saw him growing up and watched a couple of his games. But he was too young (to play against). Q: You played against Jordan Hill a little (Friday). What's your impression of him? A: Very good. His potential is off the roof. I think this year he's got a chance to get better. His attitude is terrific. He's here every day working on his game. So you can't ask for much more. I like him a lot. Hopefully he can be better than I was when I was here, take us to the Final Four. Q: What's up with your Web site and blog? A: I started three years ago, and it's nothing really too serious. This year, I just want to get in touch with more people and give my opinion on certain things. And everybody says I have nice stories. I felt like just writing them down, and it just seemed to catch on. Q: Do you blog on the road or just when you get extra time? A: I do it all the time. Whenever I get on a plane or something funny happens. Life happens all the time, and I figure everybody goes through the same situations. The best thing about it is humanizing us for people who think we're celebrities. We go through the same situations everybody else does. We have to sit on planes for hours, we get hair in our food and (stuff) like that, just like everybody else. We just happen to be a big deal all the time. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 221.169.172.177
