[外電] Blazers get Pendergraph and Cunnningham in second round
‧ The Sacramento Kings have selected Jeff Pendergraph for the Trail Blazers
with the first pick of the second round.
Pendergraph, who played four seasons at Arizona State, is part of the Blazers'
trade with the Kings involving Sergio Rodriguez. Pendergraph, a 6-foot-9
forward, participated in a predraft workout for the Blazers earlier this
month as part of a talented group that also included Tyler Hansbrough and
Darren Collison.
Below are some tidbits I posted about him after that workout, including a
scouting report from the Blazers' director of college scouting, Chad Buchanan:
Notable: Finished four-year career as the sixth-highest scorer Sun Devils
history with 1,588 points, slightly ahead of Byron Scott. ... Averaged 14.5
points and 8.2 rebounds per game and led the nation in field goal percentage
(66.0) and was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a senior. ... In the final
15 games of his college career, averaged 16.1 points and 9.1 rebounds and
registered 11 double-doubles.
Buck's take: "He's got size. He knows what he is as a player. He's not going
to give you a ton of offense. He's going to play the right way. He's going to
set screens, he's going to finish easy plays that more talented guys create
for him. He's going to play good position defense. Really intelligent kid.
Been well coached. Obviously he doesn't have real star potential, but I think
you can put him on an NBA floor."
‧ Turns out, Pendergraph was not the only intriguing player at that predaft
workout. The Blazers also evaluated Dante Cunningham, a 6-8 forward from
Villanova that day -- and two picks after acquiring Pendergraph, the Blazers
drafted Cunningham.
Here are my notes on Cunningham:
Notable: One of six player in Villanova history to top 1,300 points and 800
rebounds in four-year career that saw him play in a school-record 139 games....
An All-Big East Second Team selection as a senior after averaging a team-high
16.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. ... His sister, Davalyn Cunningham,
played in the WNBA.
Buck's take: "Just a solid role guy. He's physical, he can shoot it a little,
he's a tough kid, comes from a great coach, great program. Very solid player."
