Former Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerome Kersey spoke Thursday about
Juwan Howard's new role with the Blazers. ...
On Howard's role as a veteran leader:
They brought him here to be a stabilizing influence on the team. Guys go
through difficult periods; he's gone through probably anything you can go
through in the NBA thus far. I'm not sure how deep he's been in the playoffs.
But he's had some playoff experience with some different teams. ... It's a
great thing that Juwan can come to this point in his career and say, 'I
learned my lessons. I learned from the veteran players who came before me.'
Because some guys just don't get that, you know? And that's why guys don't
stay around. So, that's a great thing. I think a lot of Juwan myself, 'cause
he was young when I was coming through. He's just learned over the years how
to keep himself in the league, also.
