Patterson再次表示不想與 Randolph 同隊
奇怪,別人開季都是開開心心的,怎麼我們開季就鬧出一堆事情,無照駕駛,
心結,還有一個正在上法庭咧。
Ruben Patterson: Not a happy camper; He wanted out -- and away from
Zach Randolph
Ruben Patterson will report for the opening of Trail Blazer
training camp Friday, but he is not a happy camper.
The veteran small forward, still seething from last April's
practice altercation with teammate Zach Randolph, says former
President/General Manager Bob Whitsitt promised he would be
traded during the offseason.
"He knew my situation," Patterson says. "I told him I didn't
want to be around Zach. This is a guy who blind-sided me for
no reason. Nobody would want to be around a teammate who sucker-
punched you when you weren't looking."
Patterson missed the next three games with a fractured eye
socket, and Randolph was suspended for two games for his part
in the incident. Afterward, Patterson met with Whitsitt and
coach Maurice Cheeks.
"Bob said he respected the way I felt," Patterson says. "He
and Mo were saying, 'OK, finish out the season, don't be a
distraction,' and after the season they would make a move.
And obviously, it hasn't happened."
Patterson and his wife, Shannon, sold their Tualatin home in
May and moved to Columbus, Ohio. Ruben, who did not spend a
day in Portland all summer and wasn't scheduled to return
until Wednesday, says he has waited in vain for news of a trade
that never occurred. Shortly after the season, Whitsitt resigned
and was replaced by Steve Patterson as president and John Nash
as general manager.
Nash says he has tried to negotiate a deal involving Ruben
but has been unable to get anything done.
Patterson has four years and $24.6 million left on the six-year,
$34-million free-agent deal that Whitsitt signed him to in
2001. Patterson also has a trade kicker, meaning if he is dealt
to another team, he is due an additional 15 percent of the
balance of the contract within 30 days of the trade. In Patterson's
case, that amounts to about $3.7 million. The receiving team
"What I told Ruben and (agent) Dan Fegan at the beginning of
the summer still stands," Nash says. "We would trade him if
it were in our best interest. I probably looked a little more
aggressively (to trade him) to avoid having an unhappy player,
but I also said we were not going to trade him for the sake
of trading him and sacrifice talent as a result."
Hampering Nash's efforts to make a deal is Patterson's reputation.
He has a lengthy record since his days at the University of
Cincinnati, where he was arrested for aggravated burglary and
was suspended for 14 games his final season for NCAA extra-
benefits violations. Since coming to the NBA, Patterson, 28,
has been convicted of misdemeanor assault for breaking a man's
jaw outside a Cleveland nightclub and entered a modified-guilty
plea to third-degree attempted rape of his family's nanny in
Seattle.
Patterson's name has been mentioned in trade talks with several
teams, but no deal has occurred, much to the forward's chagrin.
