Welcome to the October 13, 2003 edition of The Blazers Report. The Blazers have opened training camp, playing preseason games and are looking forward to the October 29, 2003 opening night against Utah and then at home on the 1st against Lebron. 　　歡迎閱讀2003年10月13日版的拓荒者導報。拓荒者隊已經展開訓練營，季前熱身賽也開打了，而且期待著2003年10月29日對上爵士隊的”開季之夜”（翻得很爛=.= ），和之後在主場第一次對抗LeBron James的比賽。 Today's report will focus on the Blazers efforts in camp so far and some news and notes as we prepare for the big season preview issue of The Blazers Report on October 27th. 　　今天的報導將集中於到目前為止整個訓練營的成效，以及一些新聞和雑記（先為10月27日拓荒者報導中的整個球季預測話題做點準備）。 First things first, the f-ing Huskies suck, they are listless and they are embarrassing. Enough on that issue. Thank goodness the Beavers and Cougars are playing well or I would be forced to completely ignore college football. （和拓荒者隊無關的事，故跳過。） Back to the Blazers. Cuts The Blazers sent Jason Jennings, David Jackson and Kaniel Dickens. The word on Jennings was that he still has some work to do and he was frankly outplayed in a big way by Boumtje and N'diaye. Jackson had some nice games but is not going to be a NBA player unless he can grow or become a better point guard. I have to confess that I know almost nothing about Dickens other than you can read about in his bio and was a little surprised he was still on the roster. 　　拓荒者隊將Jason Jennings、David Jackson 和Kaniel Dickens 資遣。對於Jennings的評語是他仍然有某些部分需要去加強，而且在（a big way 我不會翻）他很明顯地被Boumtje-Boumtje 和N'diaye 大大地打敗。Jackson 雖然在幾場比賽中打得不錯，但是還沒有到當 NBA 球員的氣候，除非他可以成長或是成為一個更好的控球後衛。我必須承認我幾乎不知道有關Dickens 的事，除了那些你可以藉由閱讀有關他的自傳和對於他仍在roster中感到有點驚奇的事以外。 This leaves 16 players on the roster with at least one more cut and probably 2-3 more cuts. The Blazers are likely to keep a 14 player roster this year. It looks like Mamadou N'Diaye will make the team. Dale Davis continues to be hampered by a groin injury and because of this uncertainty, the Blazers are concerned that if Davis gets hurt during a game, they may not have sufficient backups to play through the game. This will probably result in keeping 2 backups centers on the active roster: Boumtje and N'Diaye until Dale looks 100% healthy. Robert Pack is also looking like he will make this team. The Blazers are very impressed with the veteran leadership and fire that Robert Pack has brought to practice every day. Ruben Patterson used to be the practice energy guy and Robert Pack has taken that mantle to another level. The Blazers would like a 5th guard and will probably find it worth the NBA salary plus tax to keep Pack around practice. This leaves two cuts from Murray, Padgett and Honeycutt. Each has played well in camp and this has turned out to be the most interesting and entertaining battle. Murray is clearly the best shooter and had a nice game against the Kings, however the Blazers wonder whether he can guard anybody or merely be a guy who comes in to shoot 3s when the team is at the end of a half because his lack of defense does not make him entirely helpful against zone defenses. Padgett is probably the most talented and could play the small forward position. He has a nice outside shot, rebounds well, plays defense adequately and passes well. He is a complete mediocre player who could play power forward in a crunch should Wallace slide over to small forward or center. Jerald Honeycutt has been a nice surprise and has played very well in limited action. Honeycutt has the most athletic ability of the 3 players but also has the most limited outside shot which is really what the position is all about. Keep in mind that Outlaw really should not count because he is not ready to play at this point. 　如果Murray、Honeycutt 或Padgett 勝出，他們將是球隊的第六個鋒線球員。記得Outlaw確實沒有被算在當中，因為他還沒有準備好打這個位置。 News and Notes The Blazers are very worried about Dale Davis and his groin injury. He did manage some minutes against the Clippers but was not overwhelmingly effective. Unfortunately the Blazers face large centers in Greg Ostertag and Ilgauskas in their first two games forcing the need for Davis. Damon looks happy and driven to be the starting point guard. The Blazers are looking more and more at a lineup featuring Damon, Bonzi, Rasheed, Zach and Davis with Derek Anderson coming off the bench. It has definitely reduced Ruben's intensity a notch or two to avoid another altercation. Also Ruben is none to happy that he got sucker punched and the team is loving Zach and holding Ruben out to dry. With his being fined last year as well he definitely feels like the Blazers are not there for him and wants out badly. What he does not understand is that his contract does not make for him being traded, they will not release him without a sizeable buyout reduction and nobody really wants him. （這一段不好翻，而且我意思也不太懂，所以不翻，希望有人可以補足。） The star of camp so far has been Bonzi Wells. Bonzi looks very fit and strong and is playing with a leadership passion not seen in prior years. He has very much picked up the mantle that was left by Scottie Pippen. He recognizes his tendency to dwell on issues and get upset usually projecting it on others and wants to take that anger and make it a motivating factor to be the all-star he believes he can. The one negative is he is constantly asserting to the coaching staff that this needs to happen at the shooting guard position. While publicly stating that Bonzi will play whatever position he is told to play, he believes his greatest personal growth will come from the shooting guard position and this is starting a little rift in the team dynamic. Derek Anderson believes that the most effective starting lineup is him at shooting guard and Bonzi at small forward, which means Zach does not start. Zach believes he should start and Rasheed as usual is just playing hard. Expect this to play out with DA sitting on the bench where he will play effectively and not complain. （這整段其實都蠻多要點可看的，只是我已經沒有餘力再翻了！） Nothing at all is going on with the trade front. The Blazers are keeping their eyes to see if a solid big man happens to get cut, but know that these odds are astronomical. Right now the sole focus is on camp. More to come as camp continues. The big focus so far has been on the cuts and the players jockeying for position and this week will move to the veterans and positional battles and lineups, which will be interesting to see how things continue.
