Blazers Sign Vladimir Stepania

The Portland Trail Blazers have signed free agent center Vladimir Stepania to a
multi-year contract. Terms were not announced.
The 7-foot-1 center appeared in 79 games for the Miami Heat last season, averag
ing 5.6ppg and 7.0rpg. In addition to the Heat, Stepania has also played for th
e Seattle Supersonics and the New Jersey Nets during his five year NBA career.
Stepania was a first round draft pick (27th selection overall) of the Seattle S
upersonics in the 1998 NBA Draft. The Tbilisi, Georgia native owns career avera
ges of 4.4ppg and 4.6rpg.
The 27-year-old is expected to join the Blazers in time for the 2003-2004 regul
ar season opener at Utah on October 29.
The Blazers have also waived Forward Scott Padgett.
