Questions remain as Blazers head to opener
A win in their final exhibition game reinforces the positives
but shows there also is more work to be done

PHOENIX -- The Trail Blazers beat Phoenix 95-92 on Friday, which
finished an exhibition season that, much like their 4-4 record,
answered some questions and left many others lingering.
拓荒者隊在星期五以95比92的比數打敗太陽，最終以四勝四敗的
戰績結束季前熱身賽，當然這次熱身賽解答了某些問題，不過也留下

This much we know:
Third-year forward Zach Randolph appears headed for a sensational
season, as evidenced by another solid game of 23 points and
11 rebounds. Randolph finished the exhibition season leading
the team in points (18.5), rebounds (9.4) and field goal
percentage (60.4).

"There is no question that Zach is going to be productive,"
coach Maurice Cheeks said. "And he makes everyone else better.

on Friday had 12 assists -- most of them pretty and precise
-- and shot five times. Backup Jeff McInnis added three assists
and added critical late-game defense on Stephon Marbury.

past. Throughout the preseason, Wallace has been a vocal leader
in the huddle and on the sideline, shouting encouragement and
directives at teammates.

During a timeout Friday, he implored Randolph to play better

Earlier, Wallace yelped at Cheeks to abandon a zone defense

it twice, and both times Johnson was able to drive uncontested
along the baseline to the basket.

But there still are questions as the Blazers enter the regular
season opener Wednesday in Utah.

Second-year forward Qyntel Woods, who gave hope that he could
be a factor this season with a prolific summer league, has
not showed any signs this exhibition season that he is ready
to assume significant playing time.

The defense of Wallace as a small forward is another question
mark that will be followed closely by the coaching staff early
in the season. The Blazers' new starting lineup, which moves
Wallace to small forward and Bonzi Wells to shooting guard,
puts pressure on Wallace to guard smaller and quicker players.
For the second consecutive game, Wallace responded with a
solid effort, preventing Shawn Marion from a big night.
Sheed 擔任小前鋒時的防守則是另一個癥結所在，而這個問題將

player.

That's why preseason games are important, because you go through
certain situations like that."

"I think the guys are on the same page," Cheeks said. "With
this lineup, I think we've got a little rotation going. We

the mix, but I feel good about the guys we're putting out on
the floor and the way they are interacting."
