BVB look to set club record to open a season
Borussia Dortmund have never had more than 12 points after five games in the
Bundesliga, and even a draw against Hamburg on Saturday would set a new club
record to open a season. But BVB want more. They want to make it three wins
from three home games - and they want to make it a perfect 15 points from
five games.

They want to achieve this feat against, of all teams, Hamburger SV, one of only
two Bundesliga sides that denied BVB any points last season by beating them
3-2 and 4-1. "We played really poor at home and deserved to lose," said
Jurgen Klopp, adding, "But the game in Hamburg was a bizarre affair." In that
match HSV had three clear-cut chances (with seven shots on goal) - and scored
them all, while BVB were left empty-handed despite going on an all-out attack,
managing only two goals from 20 attempts.

"We have a score to settle," said Klopp in the build-up to the 93rd edition
of this matchup which saw more goals than any other in the history of the
Bundesliga. It will also mark the start of a busy spell for Borussia Dortmund
with seven games in 22 days.

Last season, the team coped well with their hectic schedule, picking up three
wins, two draws (including one at Bayern) and one defeat ahead of a Champions

will definitively start on Saturday. Klopp strongly came out in support of his
central defender who had been dropped to the bench for Germany’s two World Cup
qualifiers against Austria and the Faroe Islands, saying: "I’m looking forward
to the next couple of years with him."
