Kampl hails from Solingen, North-Rhine Westphalia, but his parents are both Slovenian and moved to Germany from Maribor. "Part of my heart is in Germany because my whole family has so much to thank the country for," he told Red Bull magazine. In far too many games - and usually when Marco Reus was missing - they struggled for creativity in attacking areas. That is where Kampl will hope to make his mark, and his impressive record for Salzburg - 29 goals and 54 assists in 109 appearances - suggests he has the ability to do so.
