In an exclusive interview with Transfermarkt the defender spoke about the injury, his current situation at Dortmund, the possibility of leaving the Bundesliga club, the upcoming games against Liverpool and the attraction of the Premier League. Transfermarkt: Mister Subotic, your club Borussia Dortmund announced today that you have suffered a deep vein thrombosis. How did it happen and how bad is it? Neven Subotic: Such an injury can occur during strengthening. The good thingabout it is that I immediately recognized it so I was able to start with the recovery program. I think I will be fit at the beginning of the new season. I cannot take partin the team training sessions but can train individually. Transfermarkt: For the first time in your career you haven't got a guaranteed spot in the starting eleven. How are you dealing with this newsituation? Subotic: It goes without saying that I always train professional and show the coach good training performances. And when I play I want to achieve the maximum. Transfermarkt: How did head coach Thomas Tuchel explain his decision? Subotic: The coach doesn't have to explain himself. We have played a very successful campaign, are second in the Bundesliga and have reached the Europa League quarter finals, aswell as the German Cup semi final. The results prove that he is right. Transfermarkt: You were linked with a move to Liverpool in the last transfer window. Subotic: I also heard about the Liverpool rumour. To be honest: If I commented on every rumour I would have a lot to do. Transfermarkt: Hamburg confirmed their interest in signing you. Did you receive an offer? Subotic: I am always happy when great clubs like Hamburg signal their interest in me because it shows that my footballing skills are appreciated and in-demand. My new agent Frieder Gamm is responsible for all those kind of things. I am focused on football, he is focused on everything else. Transfermarkt: Why did a January transfer fail to happen? Subotic: A transfer in the last transfer window wasn't discussed. Transfermarkt: In December you said that it was not the time to think about a transfer and that it is your goal to regain a starting spot. Subotic: I was a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp. My spot was on the pitch. But the situation has changed. This is something I need to evaluate and think about. Transfermarkt: There are only a few internationally experienced centre-backs like you with such a high market value who aren’t starting for their clubs. Will you remain a Dortmund player next season if your situation hasn't changed? Subotic: I have learned in the last years that nothing in professional football will last forever. You cannot even say what will happen in the next three months. We will know more in the summer. Right now, my contract with Dortmund runs until 2018. Transfermarkt: How hard would it be to leave the club? Subotic: To be honest: I haven't yet thought about leaving for one second. Transfermarkt: Which factors are important to you when it comes to a transfer? Subotic: It is not my goal to join a new club. I just want to play as much as possible. And I would like to do it in Dortmund. If that isn't possible, I have to think about it. Transfermarkt: Are you considering switching to a Bundesliga rival? Subotic: I am a passionate footballer. I want to play and be successful. Transfermarkt: Which league appeals to you? Subotic: Obviously, the Bundesliga is always interesting due to the great development in recent years. I also have to admit that the Premier League suits my way of playing football very well. The intensity and the physical game attract me. Transfermarkt: You played eight years under Jurgen Klopp. No player has made more appearances than you under Klopp (281 games). Have you talked to him about your current situation? Subotic: Jurgen has three games per week, training and press conferences. I think he has enough work to do. Transfermarkt: Dortmund will host Liverpool next week. Will your name be discussed? Subotic: Everybody knows about the great relationship between Jurgen and me so it is obvious that the topic "Subotic and Liverpool" will be discussed in the media. Unfortunately, I am injured now and cannot be part of the team in these great matches. Transfermarkt: Dortmund are in the Europa League quarter finals and the German Cup semi final. There is also a slight chance of you winning the Bundesliga title. In which competition do you see the best chances to succeed? Subotic: I'm a positive thinking person so I won't give up any of these dreams.
