Donovan -- who hails from a life-long military family and is someone who spends
loads of his own time supporting veteran causes and often wears a stars-and-stri
pes headband under his hat -- wants that Team USA appointment dearly. Like, almo
st more than he’s ever wanted anything in baseball.
“To be able to put that USA across your chest … that’s something I would stro
ngly consider,” Donovan told MLB.com. “Obviously, seeing my dad put on a very
different kind of uniform every day -- that flag means everything to our family.
My dad represented his country overseas and here in the states in a very differ
ent way. But to be able to do something like that and represent my country, that
would be extremely special.”
“That would be the purest form of baseball … playing for your country,” Donov
an said. “You’re not worried about money, you’re not worried about politics a
nd you’re not worried about anything but, ‘How can I win this game for my coun
try?’
“I heard Skenes talking about it when he said he wore that USA jersey with camo
(while at LSU), and that’s something that would really resonate with me. I’d
see my dad put on his boots every day, and it could be kind of the same with me.
The boots and the cleats are different, but it’s the same kind of pride. So it
would be special if that opportunity ever came.”
Donovan 出身於一個軍人世家，他經常利用自己的時間支持退伍軍人相關的事業，並經常在
帽子下戴著星條旗圖案的頭帶，他非常渴望能夠加入美國國家隊——幾乎比他以往在棒球生
涯中渴望的任何事情都還要強烈。

B.com 訪問時說
「我每天都看到我爸爸穿上那種截然不同的制服——對我們家來說，那面國旗意義重大。我
爸爸以一種非常不同的方式在海內外為國服務，而能夠做那樣的事、代表我的國家，那會是
一件非常特別的事情。」
「那將是最純粹的棒球……為你的國家而打球，」
「你不會擔心金錢，也不會在意政治，更不會去想其他任何事，只會想著：『我要怎麼為我
的國家贏下這場比賽？』」
「我聽到 Skenes 說他在 LSU 穿上那件帶有迷彩圖樣的 USA 球衣時的感受，那真的讓我很
有共鳴，我每天都看到我爸穿上軍靴，而對我來說也許能有相似的體會，軍靴與釘鞋不同，
但那份自豪是一樣的。所以如果有機會參加，那真的會非常特別。」
