There are rumblings from Japan that Yomiuri Giants star infielder Kazuma Okamoto
has requested to be posted. The Giants have historically been reluctant to post
players early, but some NPB sources suggest they are now more open to it, given
the significant financial rewards from posting fees. Will Okamoto be posted, an
d will the Yankees make a play?
有日本傳聞指出，讀賣巨人隊的明星內野手岡本和真已提出入札的請求
巨人隊過去一向不願提前讓球員入札，但根據部分NPB消息來源透露，考量到可觀的入札金
收益，球團如今的態度似乎有所轉變
問題在於——巨人是否真的會放人？而洋基隊是否會出手爭取？
Okamoto suffered an elbow injury on a play at first base in May, missing three m
onths of the season. He finished strong, posting a .327/.416/.598 slash line in
293 plate appearances in the Japan Central League (JPCL). He struck out just 33
times in 251 at-bats, a key area where he differs from star third baseman Muneta
ka Murakami.

Okamoto’s Strengths
岡本的優點
Okamoto is an adept hitter with above-average swing decisions and rarely chases
pitches. He’s particularly effective against left-handed pitchers, making him a
strong candidate for a platoon role. He brings plenty of pull power to the line
up, and his above average pitch recognition lets him adjust on off-speed pitches
well. He doesn’t try to do too much and change his approach on swings, which h
elps him maintain good contact on off-speed pitches.

Okamoto has a more athletic build than Murakami, who has faced weight-related co
ncerns that raise questions about his mobility as he ages. Okamoto’s defensive
flexibility adds significant value, particularly for a team like the Yankees. He
plays first base, third base, and some outfield. His instincts shine at the cor
ners, and he’s capable of making good scoops at first. Defensively at first, Ok
amoto shows good mobility on grounders between first and second and down the lin
e. He makes quick, accurate releases to pitchers covering first and is adept at
turning double plays with a swift throw to second.
在體格上他比村上更具運動能力，村上近年受體重問題影響，外界對其機動性有所疑慮

While he’s a better fit at first base, he could serve as an adequate backup at
third in low-exposure situations (similar to Amed Rosario), though his limited r
ange and arm strength make him less suited for the position in the majors.
雖然他更適合鎮守一壘，但在低壓力情況下（像是Amed Rosario類型的替補角色），他也可

For the Yankees, who need a right-handed infielder to back up Ben Rice and Ryan
McMahon, Okamoto checks both boxes. He could also fill in occasionally in left f
ield, though his lack of range and arm strength makes him a below-average outfie
ld option, comparable to Masataka Yoshida or Hideki Matsui defensively.
對洋基隊而言，岡本正好能補上右打內野手空缺，作為Ben Rice、Ryan McMahon的輪換或替
補人選，他也能偶爾頂替左外野，不過由於臂力與移動範圍有限，他在外野的防守能力大約
等同於吉田正尚或松井秀喜的水準
Okamoto is an intelligent player with a strong understanding of game situations,
akin to Seiya Suzuki. One scout noted:
“He’s a lesser version of Suzuki because he doesn’t have as much power, but h
e has better plate discipline. Suzuki is also a better fastball hitter, an area
where Okamoto is less polished. He has a better chance of succeeding early in th
e majors than Murakami due to his ability to make consistent contact.”

Okamoto’s Weaknesses
岡本的缺點
Okamoto will need to adjust to playing on grass, as most of his experience is on
turf. Infield play is faster in Japan, but he may adapt quickly at first base.
However, successful transitions for NPB infielders to MLB are rare, which may ca
use hesitation among MLB teams.

While he makes adequate scoops at first, he occasionally stiffens up and that co
uld be problematic from time to time. Aside from that, his defense at first look
s promising. He has a good feel for first base and third base—although his lack
of athleticism limits him at third.

Offensively, Okamoto struggles to consistently barrel high-velocity pitches, whi
ch could be problematic in MLB, where 95+ MPH fastballs are more common than in
NPB. The adjustment to MLB pitching will be a challenge. He does generate good l
ift on pitches inside, and he’s capable of doing some big damage down the left
field line at Yankee Stadium. He’s also a good situational hitter like Seiya Su
zuki, who might thrive with runners in scoring position and be a key run produce
r for the Yankees against lefties.

Still, the risk of adapting to MLB pitching remains, as it does for most NPB pos
ition players.

Fit with the Yankees
與洋基隊的契合度
The Yankees haven’t been active in the NPB market recently, though they were fi
nalists in the chase for Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Okamoto would be a cost-effective a
ddition compared to Munetaka Murakami and a younger, more flexible option than A
med Rosario or a potential Paul Goldschmidt reunion. While unlikely to become a
star, Okamoto could be a Seiya Suzuki-lite bat with an adjustment period. A firs
t-base platoon with Ben Rice would add youth and balance to the Yankees’ roster

If the Yankees are willing to take a chance on an NPB infielder, Okamoto makes a
compelling case for 2026. There will be a few teams with potential interest, in
cluding the Mets and the Red Sox. While it seems likely that the Mets lock up Pe
te Alonso for the rest of his career, the Yankees have Ben Rice at first and the
y might not be willing to spend a ton on an “if” in Okamoto. There are no guar
antees with position players from NPB, and a lot of homework is needed to make s
ome educated guesses on ability.
如果洋基隊願意嘗試引進一名NPB內野手，岡本會是具吸引力的選擇
除洋基外，大都會與紅襪也可能對他有興趣
雖然大都會可能會長約綁住 Pete Alonso，然後洋基已有Ben Rice在一壘，或許他們不願為

The big caveat to this is whether or not the Giants post Okamoto. Some sources b
elieve the financial gains may push them to post him rather than lose him to fre
e agency. With the Giants, it’s unpredictable. It does make sense to post him t
his offseason, because his time with the team is coming to an end.
而最大變數在於讀賣巨人是否真的會讓岡本入札
有消息指出考量到金錢收益，他們可能傾向讓他被入札，而不是等他以自由球員身份離隊
不過巨人隊的決策一向難以預測
