As Chisholm, 28, prepares for a pivotal season — for himself and the Yankees —
he’s setting lofty goals: an AL MVP, a Silver Slugger, a Gold Glove and, most
audaciously, he believes he can join the 50-50 Club (homers, stolen bases). In h
is mind, being the best player in the sport is attainable.

“Ask Cap (Aaron Judge),” Chisholm said. “Real life. Let’s just be realistic.
I got all the tools for it. I have the speed, the power, the plate discipline,
the eye at the plate, defense. I got everything to accumulate a 10-WAR season.”

Chisholm has never had a season with more than 4.4 WAR, per FanGraphs, nor has h
e ever been in the top 20 in MVP voting, but few players in the sport can match
his raw talent. He finished last season with 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases, b
ecoming the third player in Yankees history to make the 30-30 Club, joining Bobb
y Bonds and Alfonso Soriano. As impressive as that was, there’s reason to belie
ve he could be even more productive.

Chisholm played only 130 games and had a 39-game stretch in which he attempted o
nly two stolen bases because he was nursing a leg injury that he played through.
His left-handed swing is built for Yankee Stadium. He made an adjustment in 202
5 to pull the ball in the air more often, and it resulted in his best offensive
season since an injury-shortened 2022, the only other year he eclipsed a 20 perc
ent pull rate on balls hit in the air.
