[News] Blue Jays sign 1B Millar to minor league deal
TORONTO (TICKER) —The Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday signed veteran first
baseman Kevin Millar to a minor league contract and invited him to spring
training.
Millar, 37, batted just .234 in 145 games for the Baltimore Orioles last
season, but he did provide some power with 20 home runs and 72 RBI.
The Blue Jays are looking for him to add some depth to their lineup from the
right side of the plate.
Millar likely will be relegated to bench duty, however, as Toronto is set at
first base with Lyle Overbay while Adam Lind is expected to be the Blue Jays’
regular designated hitter.
Millar is a career .277 hitter in parts of 11 seasons with Florida (1999-2002),
Boston (2003-05) and the Orioles (2006-08).
