He received a late call-up for the 2002 FIFA World Cup after then captain Emerson was injured on the eve of the tournament but was restricted to substitute appearances in Brazil’s successful campaign. Won the Brazilian league title with Corinthians in 1999 and 2001, the Brazilian Cup in 2002 and the 2000 FIFA Club World Championship.
