The Indonesian national team could be set to take on South American
heavyweights Brazil and Argentina in friendly matches later this year.
According to a report in The Jakarta Globe, the Indonesian National Team Body
is attempting to take advantage of the fact that the two sides will be in
Asia during that time.
“Brazil will travel to Thailand, while Argentina is likely to play in China.
So I think it’s possible to bring them to Jakarta,” National Team Body
chief Iman Arif said.
“We’re ready to pay for their transport and accommodation, but the match
fee is very high.”
That match fee is understood to be $1.5 million for Brazil and $1.2 million
for Argentina, with the likes of Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South
Korea - all of whom have been contacted - likely representing far cheaper
alternatives.
Argentina would take on the Indonesians in Jakarta on October 12, with Brazil
lining up on November 7.
The arrival of such high-profile sides in Asia mirrors the growing trend of
having the world's biggest domestic clubs tour the continent, with Spanish
champions Barcelona among the most recent visitors.
