Again To Secure Copa Glory
Goals from Rafael Sobis, Leandro and Giuliano enough to drive Celso Roth's

Brazilian wizards Internacional repeated their heroics of a week ago to
secure another comeback victory against Chivas Guadalajara- with goals from
Rafael Sobis, Leandro and Giuliano driving the Colorados on to win South
America's ultimate football prize for only the second time.
Despite taking the lead in the dying stages of the first half thanks to Marco
Fabian de la Mora Chivas never looked seriously in contention in a one-sided
encounter. They become the second Mexican side to fall at the final stage
since the country's clubs were allowed to compete back in 1998- with no side
yet to win the Copa. Omar Arellano also red for the Rebaña Sagrada late on
as things became desperate in the Beira Rio.
Home team Internacional were the side who settled earliest, and had the first
decent chance when Andres D’Alessandro landed a free kick perfectly on the
head of Sandro - only for the effort to be repelled by Chivas keeper Luis
Michel. The Colorados started to build on this, and through their sparkling
midfield trident of Taison, Tinga and D’Alessandro came to dominate the
centre of the field.
Chivas on the other hand showed little of the urgency that their two goal
disadvantage required, happy to negate Inter attacking play through at times
cynical fouling and wait for a mistake. Marco De La Mora gave the Brazilians
a scare 22 minutes into the half with a wickedly swerving long range effort,
in one of the few early forays into Inter territory early on.
Just as in the first leg though, early Internacional pressure did not result
in an opener- leaving Chivas to trouble the scorekeepers first just before.
Mario De Leon’s cross was diverted into the path of Marco Fabian de la Mora,
and the impressive midfielder acrobatically volleyed the ball past Renan: 1-0
Chivas, and the final was all tied up, albeit with Inter still holding the
crucial extra away goal.
In response to De la Mora's late warning shot Inter came out for the second
half looking for blood, and had decent chances from Rafael Sobis and the
marauding Taison early on. With Sobis in the side for the injured Alecsandro
though the team missed the striker's goal poaching abilities as more than one
foray into the area came to nothing- Sobis' indecision one-on-one after
Kleber's brilliant through ball a telling example.
After a blistering start to the second period The Colorados got their just
reward with 63 minutes played. Fluent passing amongst the entire midfield
freed up Kleber on the left wing, and the full back drifted the ball low into
the area. Rafael Sobis reacted first to divert the ball past Michel, and send
the Beira Rio crowd into raptures.
Chivas struggled to create anything under the domination and pressure of the
home team- de la Mora coming close with a blocked shot was about as much as
the Mexicans threatened in the first half hour. Frustration started to show,
and Hector Reynoso was lucky to stay on the pitch after administering three
kidney punches to an unaware Sobis- subsequently carried off and replaced.
The final nail in the Chivas coffin came 30 minutes into the half, thanks to
an inspired strike by subsitute Leandro. On the field for just two minutes,
the forward picked up the ball on halfway, skinned three men on arriving in
the area and flicked the ball past a despairing Michel to all but guarantee
the cup for the Brazilians, leaving the 50,000 Inter fans packed in the
stadium already celebrating a second ever Libertadores triumph.
The final icing on the cake was provided in injury time by supersub Giuliano,
who scored once more in the Copa coming off the bench to give the scoreline a
convincing appearance. Omar Bravo provided some respectability for Chivas by
banging in a rebound with the last kick of the game, but it was far too late
for Chivas and the Beira Rio erupted seconds later with the final whistle.
